Without a word, she can tell you a love story.
As soon as I held River, her story poured straight into me. She was the clearest depiction of God’s love and grace I’ve yet to hold in my arms. Here was this tiny human who has just entered this difficult, tragic, wonderful and confusing world, and yet she has unwavering faith that her parents will take care of every need she has. When she’s held safe, she falls hopefully asleep with a peace most of us pray for on a daily basis. If only we could trust Him with every need and be at peace that He is always there holding us safe.
People can go an astoundingly long time without being overwhelmed by love.
But, a gift like River makes the most cautious of us become vulnerable to that feeling. Not only does she make you gooey with love for her, but your love for the people who love her becomes just a little stronger. You can see it in the way Matt and Courtney (River’s parents) look at each other. You can see it in the way Matt’s mother looks at him with just a slightly different smile. I can feel it when I watch my husband hold her for the first time and see his eyes fill with tears. We are all now connected by this person we can’t wait to know, and that makes us all love each other just a little deeper.
